Woolworths Reinvention To Online Store

8th February 2009

Woolworths has been saved by Sir David and Frederick Barclay who also own The Daily Telegraph.  They have big plans to rejuvenate the name by creating an online store with success resting on trading on the brand of Woolworths and Ladybird.

The chief executive of Shop Direct, Mark Newton-Jones will be taking the reins of this much loved store and confirmed the purchase of Woolworths and Ladybird brands with plans to re-launch by the summer with a new online store.

Mark Newton-Jones confirmed they are surveying the general public and that by trying to keep the essentials of Woolworths within the online store.  He hoped that both children’s wear and entertainment would be included but that the rest would depend upon the response of the general public.

Although they have been unable to save any jobs in terms of the previous Woolworths employees there will be some jobs created out of the purchase which is good news for the currently unemployed.
