One of the top accounting firms, Ernst and Young, is recruiting 18 fresh-faced students into their accountancy programme for a taste of corporate life. The students will gain valuable “on the job” experience, as well as a degree from the University of Lancaster.
They will intern for three months at offices in Leeds, Edinburgh, Birmingham, London and Manchester as part of their four-year degree.
It could not have come at a better time for the new recruits, as well as for the accounting firm. The end of the tax-reporting season is the busiest time of the year.
The first hand job experience will serve the students well. They will work on site with some of the firm’s finest audit teams and clients. This will put them on the fast track, eons ahead of others who wish to have accounting careers.
Ben Dickinson, one of the new recruits, who will be completing his placement in the London office says, "I wanted to distinguish myself from other graduates. The opportunity to combine academic study, work placement with a chartered accountancy qualification was not to be missed."
"Busy season is intense but is a great way to learn - well supported with lots to do. It's great preparation for a graduate career," added Ben.
Currently, Ben is busy working with construction clients who are building properties.
