Public sector jobs ignored by recent Graduates

A recent survey from totaljobs has shown that less than 1 in 10 graduates would favour a public sector job over the charity and private sectors.

With nearly a third of the polled, 31%, saying they would accept any job that they were offered, this is an interesting stat indeed. The report went on to explain that despite the 9% shunning the public sector, nearly half have been put off applying for jobs there due to the job cuts. This has led some to believe that in the near future there could be a gap in talent within the public sector.

Currently, there are jobs available in the public sector with benefits including good career progression, training and flexibility to the employee.

The competitive nature of the job space at the moment is reflected with over 4 in 5 believing the market is much tougher now then it was two years ago. Most admitted to spending less than 2 hours applying for a single job, whereas a quality application may take a lot more time to achieve.
Salary expectation was also questioned in the report with many now believing that they will get less than 19k compared to what they thought before the start of their university course when they believed they would get 20k or higher.
