Spare a Thought for Those Working Christmas Day

Christmas Day Working

As the festive season ramps up, companies are recruiting for their seasonal positions and the annual Christmas traditions are in full swing. Who’s Working on Christmas Day?

The Guardian released data on what percentage of various professions were working over the festive season. Around one million UK workers will turn up as the rest of the country puts their feet up and relaxes with their loved ones. The sectors with the highest turnout of Christmas Day workers are;

• Farm workers – 20%
• Senior care workers – 20%
• Care workers – 18%
• Security guards – 17%
• Police officers – 16%
• Chefs – 14%
• Nursing auxiliaries and assistants – 14%
• Nurses – 13%
• Bar staff – 6%
• Medical practitioners – 6%
• Waiters and waitresses – 5%
• Kitchen and catering assistants – 5%
• Cleaners and domestics – 4%

Worker Stories

Of those working, it’s interesting to gather their thoughts about Christmas Day at the office. For a minicab worker who celebrates Christmas on a different day, he enjoys helping people get to where they need to be and the quiet roads – along with the excellent wages! Another plumber enjoys playing the hero as he rescues multiple Christmas dinners and days for happy customers. For restaurant owners, chefs and staff alike it’s a highly pressured but special day too.
