A unique and rare opportunity for a multi-skilled building maintenance technician with an interest in conservation and craftsmanship to join the College of St Georges estate which includes St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

Out-of-hours work will sometimes be necessary, as well as emergency call-out cover.

The Estate:

The College of St George is, at its heart, a community of people who live and work together to offer worship to God, prayers for the Sovereign and the Order of the Garter, service to society and hospitality to visitors.

The College was founded in 1348 at the same time as the Order of the Garter and now consists of St George’s School, St George’s House, (both of which now operate as charitable companies separate from other elements of the College), the Military Knights of Windsor, the Chapter Library & Archives and the Choir as well as, at the centre, St George’s Chapel itself.

The buildings, owned and occupied by the College, take up a quarter of Windsor Castle together with the school buildings outside the north wall.
The Building Maintenance Technician Opportunity:

The Dean and Canons of Windsor seek to recruit a Building Maintenance Operative / Craftsperson to assist the Stewards Department in its responsibilities to maintain the fabric of the College, which includes St George’s Chapel.

The role holder will deal with all matters relating to maintenance works, small projects and historic building conservation required within the College of St George (including St George’s Chapel), as part of the reactive and planned programme of maintenance to the fabric of the buildings within the College.

The role will include odd jobs that require knowledge and experience of all building trade
disciplines that relate to the day-to-day maintenance needs of the College.

Given the nature of the College the job entails all elements of maintenance including, and not limited to, carpentry, brickwork, plumbing and attending generally to a whole range of tasks to maintain the College.

For events within the College and residential moves, an element of time is devoted to
porterage, general caretaking and sundry other odd jobs when the need arises.

About You:

+ Multi-skilled with experience of all construction trades.
+ Working knowledge or understanding of the principles and methods of traditional building
+ A good understanding of current Health and Safety legislation
+ An appreciation of historic buildings & furnishings
