CEO – British Dyslexia Association
Full-time £55,000 to £60,000 p.a.

The British Dyslexia Association (BDA) has been the voice of dyslexic people since 1972. We are a membership organisation working to achieve a dyslexia-friendly society for all.
We are seeking an experienced CEO who will share our passion and work in partnership with the board of Trustees for the success and growth of the organisation. People are at the very heart of the BDA and the organisation strives to set the standard for dyslexic knowledge and professional expertise, through recognised accreditation courses, specialist teachers and delivering training courses and conferences. The successful candidate will need to provide effective leadership, management and oversight of the BDA and take the organisation forward in its strategic aims whilst ensuring that dyslexic people are at the heart of every decision.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual who has previously been running an organisation, ideally in charity, training, or services sector, with an understanding of charity operations and governance structures. You will be a motivational leader of people and be successful in building relationships, working collaboratively and flexibly with stakeholders. The CEO will lead the BDA and provide vision, effective leadership, and management to achieve its objectives through the strategic plan, optimising opportunities as they arise and minimising risk. In addition, the ideal candidate will have passion for making the organisation successful and a worthwhile and enjoyable place to work. They will enthuse stakeholders and employees with their business mission for the BDA.
The main responsibilities of the role:
+ Work in partnership with the Trustees to establish strategic goals, policy and organisational structure and develop the strategic plan every 3 years.
+ Lead in collaboration with the Trustees the formation and dissemination of annual plans and targets, and direct their implementation throughout the BDA.
+ Ensure monthly reviews of the BDA’s performance against the strategic plan and take any required action, in consultation with the Chair.
+ Support the Trustees in a timely manner on performance, developmental opportunities and risks for the BDA and its capability to undertake such opportunities or mitigate such risks.
+ Placing the BDA’s values at the heart of everything we do, always remembering the needs of dyslexic people, of all ages.
+ Promote fund raising activity and opportunities for growth by working with the Trustees to integrate the strategic and operational planning.
+ Ensure the BDA services are delivered to established standards; customers are satisfied, and the BDA’s reputation is always upheld .
+ Lead and manage employees, volunteers, and finances.
+ Support and enable the Trustees to undertake good governance and their legal responsibilities.
+ Providing oversight and is responsible for funding streams and ensuring that appropriate applications and documentation are provided.
+ Generate and maintain current income generating services, reviewing them in agreement with the board of Trustees.
+ Have overall responsibility for BDA financial planning, find raising and management, collaborating with the COO to ensure that the charity is cost effective, gains value for money whilst maintaining a high level of quality.
+ Ensure the preparation of the annual audit report and any other legal or regulatory requirements.
The successful applicant will:-
+ Have previous experience working in a Director/CEO/Senior Management role, ideally in charity, training, services sectors.
+ Be self-directing with the ability to prioritise whilst maintaining and developing income streams.
+ Experience of managing all aspects of budgets and financial planning.
+ Provide inspirational leadership across the organisation.
+ Create an environment in which quality is constantly enhanced and opportunities to improve standards are implemented.
+ Motivate and empower employees to achieve objectives and provide support and encouragement and meaningful feedback.
+ Be committed to their own personal development and take ownership for self-improvement.
+ Implement strategies and generate a positive attitude amongst the team in relation to change and challenge
