We’re on the lookout for an Electronics Firmware Engineer with high level programming language C to join our team as we continue to grow and build solutions for some of the best-known companies and laboratories worldwide.

This role is offered on either a full or part time basis and flexible working hours and a mix of remote and office working are also possible.

We design and manufacture high quality electronics with integrated firmware for photonics applications and quantum technologies. Our three core product areas are emerging products for quantum technologies, control systems for high power lasers and spectroscopy, and optimised OEM subsystems for photonics.

We are a talented, dedicated, friendly team of high performers. We are growing and we are looking for a Firmware engineer to join us.

We offer a wide range of software opportunities starting from simple python unit testing, to embedded firmware using FreeRtos/Azure, VHDL/Verilog, MFC and Linux kernel programming. Our software is always developing and we are always looking for better ways to improve and integrate our software base.

The Firmware Engineer Role:

As Firmware Design Engineer you will be involved in the whole design/product lifecycle. The role will include collaborating on designing electronic circuits, modifying firmware, running simulations, building and testing prototypes, fault finding, making improvements, and putting together documentation. Taking ownership of your projects, you will work closely with the rest of the design team (electronics, mechanical and software engineers) and with production.

You will also be involved in Innovate UK projects on quantum technologies. This would suit an engineer who is excited to bring new products to market and to work on projects at the forefront of photonics.

What are we looking for?

+ High level programming language C, with some experience in C++, python
+ Ability to understand low level assembly language
+ Ability to use VHDL or Verilog
+ Visual Studio IDE or some equivalent.
+ Embedded programming including using a RTOS
+ Ability to understand circuit diagrams
+ Linux command line experience
+ Ability to understand Linux kernel
+ Ability to use test equipment including oscilloscope, PSU
+ Ability to use UML for design.
+ Ability to lead projects
+ A “can do” mentality to deliver practical engineering solutions
+ Practical ability (soldering, validation testing)
