Full Stack Developer / Senior Engineer- Digital Products Agency
Shoreditch, London or Full Remote
£51,000 – £70,000 + Big Perks Package
We are a digital product agency based in London. We've been helping corporates, startups and the government design, build and launch new digital products and tools to help them to achieve their goals since 2013.
Learning and experimentation are central to how we work. Hence the 'Labs' in our name. In addition to client work, we contribute to a variety of open-source projects, speak at meet-ups, have built developer tools of our own and regularly run hack days to play with new technology.
We're looking for a solid full-stack developer / Senior Engineer to join our talented engineering team. You'll help head up our clients' development projects and write high-quality code whilst also sharing our knowledge and expertise with the rest of the team to help them do the same.
For us, technology is a creative tool to solve real-world problems. That means we choose the best tools for the job and don't limit ourselves as a company. We use Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React, and various database technologies including PostgreSQL and Clickhouse, and we expect all our engineers to be keen on learning new technologies. Automation is critical for moving fast, so we make sure there is a CI/CD pipeline set up to build, test and release (and learn!).
Often we're responsible for setting up and deploying our client’s infrastructure so you’ll be hands-on with setting up applications on Heroku and AWS including using technologies like Terraform and Ansible.
Experience we’re looking for
While we will look for you to have experience in these things, if you don’t have one of these don’t let that stop you from applying.
+ Commercial coding experience with more than one programming language
+ Written code that is thoroughly tested across the whole stack
+ Delivered in an agile environment
+ Deployed and maintained applications with multiple moving parts
+ Debugged technical issues in a range of systems
+ Explained technical concepts to a non-technical audience
+ Being self-motivated to solve technical problems swiftly and creatively
+ Drive to deliver outcomes for users
+ Evidence of self-development – we value keen learners
+ Desire to mentor others
+ Don’t forget to mention any of the experience listed below. While it’s optional, it’s all highly desired.
+ Delivering projects in a client-facing / agency / consultancy role
+ Building products with Ruby on Rails (you’ll be using this from day one)
+ Building complex frontend applications in React or a similar frontend framework
+ Implementing frontend designs using good component-based practises
+ Working on performant, data-intensive web applications
+ Agile practices such as Scrum, XP, and/or Kanban
+ Pair programming
+ Working in cross-functional teams (product, design and technology)
+ Familiarity with architectural and design patterns
+ Writing architectural decision records and other formal technical documentation techniques
+ Showcasing and presentation skills
+ Writing blog posts and giving talks
You would love and thrive in this role if you are:
+ A collaborator: the best results come from supporting each other and working closely with our clients.
+ An analytical and creative thinker, who enjoys problem-solving and learning new industries as well as complex domains.
+ Flexible: agency work is fun and varied. Often no two weeks are alike.
+ Happy to work on projects of all sites and shapes, from a quick one-page prototype to a twelve-month transformation project.
+ Driven by tangible results and learning opportunities: done is better than perfect.
+ Always striving to improve your craft and the quality of our work as a team.
What we offer in return:
+ A strong focus on personal development (a development plan, monthly 1:1s, quarterly + annual reviews)
+ Monthly hack days to experiment with new tech
+ Personal training/conference/book budget
+ All the tools you need – a Macbook, peripherals and ergonomic equipment
+ Health insurance and subsidised gym membership
+ 25 days holiday + bank holidays
+ Regular lunches, drinks and dinners (once we’re back in the office)
+ Opportunity to work remotely for 2 days a week if you wish (fully remote at present)
+ Competitive salary depending on relevant experience and working arrangements
+ Pension scheme
+ Season ticket loan, cycle-to-work and tech schemes
