Product / Service: – Enterprise Supply Chain Software SaaS. Our software handles £7.5bn+ per annum of Scottish Government spend

We run and maintain the Scottish Government’s supply chain software service which automates the processing of purchase orders through to the payment of invoices covering £7.5bn+ per annum of Scottish Government spend. We also provide eProcurement, eInventory, eHealth and eFunding solutions for clients around the world.

The Linux Systems Administrator role:

As Systems Administrator, you will become involved in the running of the Linux infrastructure as well as the applications running on the Linux systems.

The main focus of the role includes installing, supporting and maintaining Linux and UNIX servers and applications, working with non-Windows devices such as Proxy Servers and SAN devices.

You will become an integral component of supporting and maintaining such systems by preparing for service outages and other complications and responding to them in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Participating as a member of the technical team to implement the technology vision, strategies and priorities of the organisation
+ Managing major portions of the IT Service Center’s production, test and development infrastructure
+ Managing and configuring security and storage devices (SAN / Proxy Servers / VPN etc.)
+ Providing technical input for, and assisting in the maintenance of, departmental documentation relating to system administration policies and procedures
+ Working with software engineering and quality assurance teams to set up new environments and ensuring optimal operation of existing environments
+ Working with database systems to securely connect web applications to enterprise databases
+ Supporting the software deployment and release processes
+ Promoting and following best practices and implementing effective processes to ensure reliable, high-quality IT service delivery
+ Performing impact / risk assessments for requested upgrades

About you:

Essential:

+ Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
+ 7+ years commercial Systems Administrator experience
+ Proven experience with Linux systems and administration (certifications preferred)
+ Knowledge of Linux development tools and web systems such as Apache Web Server & Tomcat
+ Experience in configuring and administering 3rd party tools on Linux operating systems
+ Demonstrable knowledge of basic security principles related to network operations and server security
+ Experience supporting hosted database enabled web applications
+ Must be able to effectively manage simultaneous tasks on several projects with independent deadlines and deliverables

Desired:

+ Knowledge of SAN / Storage devices (EMC / Dell preferred) and Firewalls (Checkpoint preferred)
+ Experience working in heterogeneous teams / environments including Linux, UNIX, Database and Windows servers
+ Basic knowledge of networking and related facility dependencies
+ Experience supporting hosted database enabled web applications
+ Build tools e.g. Ant or Maven and CI tools e.g. Jenkins
+ Load Balancing via F5 devices
