Employees: Would You Rather Flexibility Or A Higher Salary?

We came across an interesting article from Recruiter detailing a study about the work/life preferences of modern employees. Below, we have summarised accordingly.

In an ever increasing business world, the lines between work and home are becoming difficult to define. With the advent of cloud computing, personal tablet PCs and even since the internet; the workplace is slowly creeping into our homes. A lot of workers are now feeling the strain and a recent study showed some interesting results that reflect this.

‘Moms Corp’ found out that almost half of the working adults who partook in their study would give up a portion of their salary in return for more flexibility at work. The rigid schedules of modern work life leave little room for organising out of work activities, which is particularly hard on those in relationships or with children. Although the amount of salary that workers were willing to sacrifice wildly differed, it was up on the whole from 5.6 percent in 2011 to 8.6 percent this year.

That means that somebody earning £30,000 would be willing to lower their earnings to around £27,500 if exchange for flexibility.

The majority of people felt that it could be possible to balance work and personal life, and the same amount felt that they would get more done if they were allowed to work from home. More importantly, over 80 percent of working parents agreed that a more flexible working system would allow them to be better parents. These same parents also concurred that flexibility plays a huge role in job selection for them.
