Most Employers Provide Flexible Work Hours

We were interested by a post on HRreview this week. The CIPD report increased employee retention and commitment for firms offering flexible working hours for their employees. This is great news for both staff and employers with the Olympics around the corner. We have summarised below:

Studies have shown that a flexible work environment improves employee morale and will likely inspire effectiveness while increasing the feeling of personal control. With these factors in mind, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, also known as the CIPD, is encouraging the Government to continue its campaign to expand the flexible working schedules of every employee.

After investigating companies that provide flexible careers, researchers discovered that only four per cent of industries had trouble implementing adaptable hours under the present rules.

When the CIPD investigated, the division found that most companies offered flexible jobs to a portion of their staff. In fact, about 70 per cent of industries that responded to the study stated that adaptable work hours increased employee retention, job incentive and commitment.

Two-thirds of the study’s participants reported that flexible jobs increased recruitment response while reducing absenteeism and increasing efficiency. The head of the CIPD Public Policy division stated “The CIPD has long been calling for the extension of the right to request flexible working to all employees, despite claims from some quarters that the legislation is burdensome for businesses. Those fears have proved unfounded – regardless of size of organisation.”
